JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Republican state Sen. Chuck Younger of Columbus now has a clear path to re-election.
The state Board of Election Commissioners on Wednesday removed Younger’s only opponent from the Nov. 3 general election ballot.
They said they were unable to establish whether Jake Reeves, a Libertarian, met a residency requirement. A Senate candidate must live in the state at least four years and in the district at least two years before the election.
Reeves was not at the election commission meeting, and he has not filed any campaign finance reports. A phone number was not immediately available for him.
The district is in parts of Lowndes and Monroe counties. Younger was first elected in 2014.
