Work Begins on New Starkville City Hall
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Five months after unveiling a design following years of debate, Starkville residents can finally see some tangible progress on a new city hall.
West Brothers Construction and Burns Dirt began tearing down the old Starkville Electric Department today to make room for the new $6.7 million building on Meigs Street in downtown.
Actual construction start by the end of the year and take about 18 months. Attention will then shift to a $1.3 million renovation of the existing city hall into a police and court headquarters.
The city sold certificates in June to finance the deal and will lease the building for 20 years.
Once the lease is done, the city will own the building.
