Video:Woman Gets Five Years for Sexual Battery

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Lowndes woman is sentenced to five years in prison for having sex with two teenagers.
A Lowndes County Circuit Court jury deliberated almost five hours over two days before finding 35-year-old Christy McGough guilty Thursday morning of two counts of sexual battery. Judge Lee Howard sentenced her to concurrent 10-year sentences but suspended five years of each term. That means she’ll serve five years.
She also was fined $1,000 and will be on post-release supervision for five years.
During the three-day trial, the two teenagers claimed they slept with McGough in her home in the spring of 2011.They were 15-year-old high school freshmen at the time but are 17-year-old juniors now.
One of the teens was living with McGough, her step son, husband and other children at the time. He was having troubles athome and was staying with them to help him get through the school year. He testified he slept with the woman as many as 30 times. The other youth testified he slept with her four times — twice alone and tweice with the other teen present — and considered the woman his “best friend.”
Relatives say they are pleased with the conviction.
“I just want to protect children and they don’t need to be around people like that. Children anywhere, now they are protected from one more,” said the grandmother of one of the teen’s.
McGough was arrested in May 2011 after the two teens were found at her home.
She could have gotten as much as 60 years in prison.
One of the teens has $6 million in civil lawsuits pending against McGough and New Hope High School. He and his mother claim the school wrongly let the two teens go home with McGough on the day they were caught.
