STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — When the clock strikes twelve tonight people all over the world cheer and wish each other a very Happy New Year. For some, this event is no more than changes of a calendar. For others, the New Year symbolizes the beginning of better conditions and things for the year 2014.
Its not just out with the old and in with the new. Some people are serious about what they want to happen even now, and of course during and after the seconds as we are counting down the hours and seconds left in 2013.
“On Mississippi State winning today so that they’ll go into 2014 a winner,” said Brian Rude, MSU Football Fan.
“A good Christian husband number five,” said Darlene Martin, Starkville.
Whether a big wish, or just something simple, people are putting in their request as the old year winds down. Some goals and items are within reach.
“Just another good year with my kids and family,” said Sarah Lucas, Mathiston.
On the other hand, although New Year’s Eve is her birthday, 8 year old Nicole Lucas can only shrug her shoulders in uncertainty.
“Yeah, One Direction,” said Nicole Lucas of a cake with the famous boy band on it.
“World peace… for everyone,” said Jeff Honeybun, Mathiston.
About a million people with various wishes for the new year are expected to gather at Times Square in New York City as the clock strikes midnight.
