WINSTON CO, Miss. (WCBI)- Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief effort organization, handed the keys to a brand new house over to Winston County resident, Mary Rogers.

Rogers watched the roof lift away from her Noxapater home, during a tornado in April 2014. After the devastation was done, her ceiling collapsed. The home was in ruins.

Volunteers from around the country have contributed efforts to give Rogers a place to live.

“This is our first new construction home,” said Brent Graybeal, A Samaritan’s Purse Worker. “We have been able to do or complete about ten repair projects but she [the house] is the first new construction.”

Volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse have been in Winston County since the storms that damaged much of the community more than one year ago.

“They are the nicest people I have ever seen, all of them,” Rogers explained. “I’ve worked with them and all of them have been down here. They just come from all over.”

Their initial response was for cleanup and recovery. The group remains to help residents rebuild.
