Winston County Farmers Market helps people get ready for Thanksgiving
LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Shoppers in Winston County had a chance to stock up on the freshest ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner. The Winston County Farmers Market was open for business at the Louisville Coliseum on Monday.
Local vendors had some staples and treats for customers, including squash, sweet potatoes, and greens.
The Farmers Market was also holding “Buck Day” for area youth to teach them about how to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables and let them meet the people who grow their food.
Market Manager Jean Harper said the market is a true community effort.
“The most important thing is we are supplying Winston County with fresh-grown healthy vegetables. We had people who donated $10. We call it ‘Buck Day’ for our youth to shop for. They learn how to buy vegetables, and they learn to know the vendors we’ve been in the farmers market business for 11 years. It’s something that we truly enjoy and we work as a team. We work together to make this work to let Winston County know that they can purchase fresh vegetables right here in Louisville,” said Harper.
This was the fourth year for “Buck Day”.
