Winona Shooting Charges Sent to Grand Jury
WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) — A grand jury will decide whether charges should be pursued against a Winona man accused of shooting another man in the chest.
Aggravated assault charges against 58-year-old Taylor Golden were forwarded to the Montgomery County Grand Jury this week.
Golden shot 20-year-old Demetrius Elder in the chest with a .32-caliber pistol inside Golden’s Beck Street home on New Year’s Eve.
Golden had ordered Elder to leave the home and when Elder returned later, Golden shot him. Golden claimed he was scared and shot Elder for protection under the state’s “Castle Doctrine.”
But witnesses said Elder was not aggressive when he returned.
Elder remains hospitalized at University Medical Center in Jackson.
