WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) — Winona Christian looks to keep the momentum going heading into 2017.
The Stars finished 9-3 in 2016, and made it to the 2nd round of the MAIS playoffs.
Seven starters return in 2017 under 2nd year head coach Junior Graham and expectations are high once again for the Stars.
“We played a lot of kids throughout the course of the year last year,” said head coach Junior Graham. “They may not have started, but we do return kids that have playing experience under their belt. Our goal is to make to the playoffs. Once you get into the the playoffs, the best team doesn’t always win in that season. It’s whoever is the healthiest. Whoever gets to play the best at that time. It’s a lot of factors they play in advancing into the playoffs. That’s what we preach to our kids. It’s not about the record. We want to get to that season.”
“Don’t be okay with finishing second,” said junior fullback Colby Marlow. “Just work hard. Work harder each practice. Do the little things and just try to better yourself each day.”
“Just keep working hard and we will finish strong day to day,” adds teammate Kendall King.
