Wildfire Causes Major Damage to Railroad Trestle
OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Oktibbeha County Volunteer firefighters and crews from the Mississippi Forestry Commission spent much of Friday evening fighting a wildfire that spread to a railroad trestle.
The fire broke out in a remote area near the Oktibbeha – Clay County Line. The fire spread quickly on the creosote treated lumber of the bridge.
The isolated conditions made getting necessary material and water to the fire a challenge. Crews had the fire under control by 8:00 PM. Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan tells WCBI that several hundred feet of lumber in the span were damaged.
There were no injuries were reported, and no other structures were damaged.
Railroad company investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
