HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – What’s in a name?
According to educators, plenty.
Vocational education departments across Mississippi are changing their names to more accurately reflect their changing curricula.
The latest example can be found in Chickasaw County, at the newly named Houston School of Science and Technology.
Courses are becoming more academically oriented, with a focus on math and science.
Students who still wish to learn a trade or skill can do so, starting in the 9th grade.
Everything from auto mechanics to culinary arts is taught in Houston.
