Whitwell Named to Chancery Court Post

JACKSON— Gov. Phil Bryant announced today his appointment of Robert “Bob” Q. Whitwell Sr. as chancery court judge in the 18th district. A vacancy was created when Judge Edwin H. Roberts Jr. died on July 1.

Whitwell, currently in private practice as a partner with Farese, Farese & Farese, PA, holds a bachelor’s degree from Delta State University and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi in 1972. With more than 40 years of legal experience, Whitwell served as municipal court judge in Horn Lake, Miss., from 1975-1985 and was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi by Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. Whitwell also served as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

“Bob’s legal experience shows a deep commitment to the law and the people of the 18th district,” Gov. Bryant said. “I appreciate his continued dedication to public service.”

Whitwell is a member of the American Bar Association and the Mississippi State Bar Association and was selected as a fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation. He received the Outstanding Civil Litigation Award in 1992 from then U.S. Attorney General William P. Barr.

“I am deeply honored that Gov. Bryant has appointed me to this position,” Whitwell said. “I look forward to serving the people of the 18th district.”

Chancery Court District 18, Place 2 includes Benton, Calhoun, Lafayette, Marshall and Tippah counties.
