White House: Obama Supports Spending Bill

WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama will sign a $1.1 trillion spending bill. That’s despite widespread opposition from Democrats who don’t like the bill’s banking and campaign money provisions.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest says Obama also has reservations about aspects of the bill. But he wants to avoid economic headwinds that could be created if the bill fails.

Earnest says passage of the bill would “provide certainty to our economy.”

Democrats oppose provisions inserted into the 1,600 page bill to roll back regulations on banks and significantly raise contribution limits for wealth party donors.

Earnest says the bill contains provisions that meet Obama’s priorities and does not include language to roll back his immigration actions or his health care law.
