WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Some local youngsters are making waves in the youth baseball world. The West Point 9-10 year old Dizzy Dean team captured the South State Championship last week. The team went 4-0 in Winona, beating teams from Columbus, Houston and Louisville. They go to Southaven Friday and play Saturday in the World Series. 20 teams will compete in Southaven.
“We’ve been practicing and playing for three months so we feel pretty good. As long as our pitchers throw strikes, that’s going to be the key,” Assistant coach Paul Caskey said. “Baseball hasn’t been that big in West Point in the last 25 years. It’s been known as a football town in the last couple decades. Maybe baseball is making a comeback.”
