WEST POINT, Miss. — The West Point Police Department is investigating the robbery of a local business.
The Highway 45 Package Store was victimized by an armed robber Friday evening.
At 5:45 on Friday, November 22, officers were dispatched to 524 Hwy. 45 alternate North in reference to a robbery in progress.
The victim and proprietor reported to police that he was outside the store cleaning a rug when an unidentified male approached him from the back of the building wearing a face mask with long white hairs coming out of it and a camouflage jacket with holes in it. The masked man also wore gloves and blue jeans.
The man brandished a silver or chrome plated handgun and forced the victim back into the store where he demanded money from the register.
The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash and ran north on foot. First responders were on the scene within two minutes of the call but were unable to locate the suspect
According to Police Chief Tim Brinkley, “This the second armed robbery this month and we are cautioning all of our local merchants to be vigilant as we usually see an increase in this type of criminal activity this time of year.
“We are encouraging all of our businesses to install a good quality surveillance system. There are some similarities between these two robberies and we think the same perpetrator may be responsible for both.”
This robbery is still under investigation. Up to a $1,000 reward is being offered through the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest in this case.
