Police Investigate Shooting
Two injured at Convenience store
West Point, MS, Sunday, December 27, 2015: Early on Sunday morning, December 27, 2015, at 1:40am, officers of the West Point Police Department were dispatched to the Texaco Gas Mart on the corner of Hwy 45 alternate and Main St. A caller reported that shots had been fired and at least two people were injured. Officers arrived within minutes but discovered that two men had already been transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point by private vehicles.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that an altercation started in the parking lot that led to the shots being fired. One man was struck in the arm and another suffered a gunshot wound to the lower leg. It’s unclear whether or not the victims were the intended targets. The names of the victims are not being released but police did say that none of the injuries are life-threatening.
According to Chief Brinkley, “We know there were a lot of people on or near the scene but so far no one has come forward to identify the shooter. We hope surveillance footage at the store will provide some useful details.”
There is a reward of up to $1,000 offered through Crimestoppers for information leading to an arrest in this case. This robbery is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers or the West Point Police Department at 494-1244.
