West Point man gets new sentence on kidnapping charge

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A West Point man has one life sentence removed but he still has two to serve.

Autravious Gaston appeared in Lowndes County Circuit Court Friday morning.

He was convicted of robbing a convenience store in February 2015.

During that robbery, two store workers were held against their will and sexually assaulted.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals ruled that Gaston could not be sentenced to life on a kidnapping charge.

Today, Judge Jim Kitchens sentenced Gaston to 30 years on the charge.

When that is added to his prior sentencing on the other charges, Gaston must serve two life sentences and 135 years in prison.
