CARROLLTON, Al.(WCBI)–A major effort on the part of some volunteer fire fighters in West Alabama saves a lumber yard from burning down.
In the small West Alabama town of Carrollton, every business is important. Thats why when a 7:35 am call came in to the local fire department, first responders there were quick to arrive on the scene.
“We arrived on the scene approximately seven to eight minutes later. Found the building totally engulfed. We were able to knock the fire down,” said Keith Cox/Assistant Fire Chief.
Were it not for the swift actions of that department, owners of P & M Lumber Company would suffer a great loss. The lumber yard, a sources of employment for area residents has been a landmark and main stay for some time now.
“Now that saw mill has been here for years,” said Keith Cox.
The fire is still under investigation but from what we understand, the blaze was confined to and damaged just one building on the property.
“Pretty extensive, in my opinion its probably almost a total loss,” said Keith Cox.
And so because of the actions of a few dedicated professionals who respond when called upon this the first day of 2016. Property is spared from ruin.
There were no injuries. The Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department got assistance from the neighboring Marvin Chapel Community Volunteer Fire Department.
