Webster County Supervisors have first meeting since Circuit Court ruling

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Webster County Board of Supervisors met on Monday to discuss the latest wave of change to hit the county.

That includes last week’s January 2 Circuit Court ruling, which strips power from Sheriff Tim Mitchell and puts a new sheriff in charge, and also doubles the pay the county now has to pay for a sheriff.

When WCBI first arrived to the meeting, county leaders were in executive session.

That’s when supervisors approved to add last week’s Circuit Court ruling on the minutes for their next meeting on January 14th.

The board also approved for the county attorney to investigate the double pay for sheriff and any legal counseling involving the situation.

Supervisors also approved minutes from their last meeting.

As the meeting was wrapping up, the board attorney said he advises supervisors to refrain from speaking about the current situation anymore than they have to.

The attorney says that’s because there could be potential litigation concerning it all.

Supervisors declined to go on camera for interviews.
