WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WCBI) — It took 43 years for the medal to track him down.
And when it did, a fellow veteran and top member of Congress presented it today during Veterans Day ceremonies in Water Valley.
Water Valley resident James Brown received the Purple Heart from Senator and Navy veteran Thad Cochran and First Lieutenant Joshua Edwards, who heads the 289th National Guard unit in Water Valley.
Brown was a specialist fourth class when he was wounded in 1970 in Vietnam. He spent eight months in a hospital in Japan and his medal never caught up to him until today.
