FARMINGTON, Miss. (AP) — Event organizers are seeking volunteers, sponsors and donations for the annual re-enactment of the Battle of Farmington.
The Daily Corinthian reports the event, hosted by the Blue-Gray Alliance, will be on Oct. 10-13 on more than 130 acres of the original battleground.
Mayor Dale Fortenberry said re-enactors from 16 states have signed up to participate.
“Last year was big, but it looks like this year we’re going to surpass it by a thousand,” said Fortenberry. “It gets bigger every year.”
One group of Iowa re-enactors is coming to Alcorn County for the first time to see where their ancestors fought in the Battle of Corinth.
“It brings in a lot of folks,” said Fortenberry. “The whole county and city of Corinth profit. That’s what it’s for — not just a Farmington event.”
Added to this year event on the 151st anniversary of the battle will be fundraiser for the Verandah-Curlee House.
The event will include a “night with the generals” on Oct. 11 at the Corinth Coliseum. The living history show will include portrayals of 10 Civil War generals.
