Video: Volunteers Educate College Students About Importance Of Registering To Vote Where They Spend Most Of Their Time
OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – Efforts are underway to educate college students about the importance of registering to vote where they live.
“Mississippi Votes” was formed earlier this year, to increase the number of registered voters in the state.
Special emphasis is being placed on college campuses. Jarrius Adams is the Ole Miss Ambassador for “Mississippi Votes.” Last November, the Hattiesburg native never got his absentee ballot in the mail and had to make the eight hour, round trip drive to cast his ballot.
Now, Adams and other volunteers are trying to educate college students about voter registration laws and policies.
“I made sure it was my responsibility to be registered in the county where I sleep, where I eat and lay my head at night, because I realize the laws that affect me everyday aren’t in Hattiesburg, it’s here in Lafayette County,” Adams said.
Mississippi Votes will start efforts at MSU this weekend.
