Video: No change to Pontotoc Alcohol Ordinance

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI)- The city of Pontotoc made a decision Tuesday to not extend the hours of the sale of beer and light wine.

Beer and light wine can only be sold from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Friday. In the meeting, residents had a chance to express their concerns to city leaders about the decision .

Only those opposing spoke and said safety issues were the biggest concern, saying this decision could increase the amount of drunk drivers out on the road.

“We still want to be known as a family friendly town, and this is the course we’ve chosen on here. People do have the opportunity to buy beer at store and establishments, but they have to stop at 10 o’clock,” said Mayor Bob Peoples.

During Tuesday night’s meeting, the board adopted its proposed budget of around $14 million.

The budget includes a pay raise for the city and also the paving of city streets.
