WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)-The West Point Police Department is spreading awareness on bicycle safety by giving away free helmets.
The department handed out more than 200 free bicycle helmets to children of all ages throughout the community.
The event is a way the department can promote helmet safety while kids ride their scooters or bikes.
The officers made sure each child knew how to wear the helmet properly. One employee says she hopes this event will remind children to ride smart.
“It’s very important for the children safety. A lot of parents have bicycles the kids do not have the helmets to go along with it and that helmet is for their protection incase they fall off we want to protect their heads,” says Zate McGee.
The event was held at the West Point Police department from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
