WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — The Mississippi River is the legend of song and literature. And now, a West Point native is creating his own special story.
Jim Colbert left his home in Minnesota on May 6th with the goal of kayaking alone from the beginning of the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico.
Through almost five months on the river, he’s seen the “big Muddy” up close and personal, stopping at small towns and camp sites. River sandbars often have been his home.
His Facebook page is chronicling the trip, from his first haircut in a month to an encounter with an alligator.
He arrives in Greenville, Miss., Friday evening where he’ll have a bit of a family reunion and pick up supplies from his sister, Beth Colbert Vail, who still lives in the Golden triangle area.
