WEST POINT, MISS. (WCBI) – Members of a West Point Church took time out to remember those suffering from breast cancer.
Third Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church members held a pink out day, as part of breast cancer awareness month.
They released pink and white balloons to finish their service. This is the first time the church has set aside a Sunday to remember not only those afflicted with breast cancer, but also others who are suffering other types of cancers.
Survivors were honored and those who lost loved ones to cancer released balloons in their memory.
“I am a cancer survivor, thanks be to the Lord, it was the Lord, there’s nothing too hard for God to do, nothing, nothing,” said church member Willie Mae James, who is a cancer survivor.
“There are so many people with not just breast cancer, but it seems cancer is just sweeping through our land and if we can do something by praying, maybe that will help,” said Pastor Al Lathan.
After the balloon release, church members enjoyed a reception in the fellowship hall. There were sandwiches, pink lemonade and pink cake.
Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
