LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Some West Lowndes Elementary students got something better than homework or a note from the teacher to take back to the house onTuesday.
Thanks to a local organization, they also went home with brand new books.
Volunteers from My Book of Lowndes County are continuing their project to put books in the hands and homes of all of the county’s elementary students.
Teachers and organizers see the new volumes as building blocks for the children’s education.
“Our children need to understand that reading will help them further their careers. It helps their little minds grow. They learn new cultures, new concepts that they never thought possible, and the importance behind getting them their books, getting them guest speakers.”
My Book of Lowndes County got some financial help from the 4 County Foundation this week as one of this year’s grant recipients.
