Video: Weddle Sworn in As District Attorney

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) –  There is a new district attorney for the First Judicial District of North Mississippi.

This afternoon, John Weddle was sworn in as the new D.A.  Family and friends filled a courtroom at the Lee County Justice Center for the ceremony.

Weddle will serve the final months of a term started by Republican Trent Kelly, who was elected to the U.S. House.  Weddle was  an assistant D.A.  under Kelly in the seven county region.  He will serve until January and had qualified to run for district attorney this year.

Weddle says he is overseeing an efficient and effective staff.

“Organization is key, we’ve done a lot of things over the last three and a half years,we’ve done electronic discovery, to get those out to people that need it more quickly, we’ve done a lot of things technology wise to help us manage such a big district and we want to continue to build upon that and improve on that,” Weddle said.

Two Democrats, Arch Bullard and Paul Gault,  also qualified to run for district attorney in the seven counties of District One.
