WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI)–A Webster County deputy rescues a man his wife and their family pet and receives recognition for his act of bravery.
A 26 year veteran law enforcement officer is being cited by the Webster County Sheriff’s department for doing his duty. While patrolling a part of the county Saturday night, Deputy Devin Mixon saved the lives of two residents of the Clarkson Community by rescuing them from a house fire.
“I was going down barnett Road and I noticed what I thought was a brush fire burning. And closer I got I could tell it was the west end of the Barnett house,” said Devin Mixon.
“He went around the house trying to wake them up and he was just fixing to kick the door open and go in and he woke the husband up,” said Tim Mitchell/WEbster Co Sheriff.
“When he opened the door I told him they needed to get out of the house. That the house was on fire,” said Devin Mixon.
The house is mostly destroyed, but two lives, and the life of a small dog are spared. Mitchell thinks it a case of divine intervention.
“I mean to me God put him at the right spot at the right time. And to me he saved these people’s lives.”
Devin Mixon “I mean I’d been all over the area that night and just, something told me to go down that road,” said Tim Mitchell.
Its all in a days work, and thats the attitude of the brave man in uniform who is only there to serves the people of his county.
“Thats what we are here to do. To protect and serve and we served that night,” said Tim Mitchell.
No one was injured in that fire. Clarkson and Mathiston Volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze.
