TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – With Christmas approaching, there will be lots of sightings of Santa Claus, but there is another character that is just as busy this time of the year.
We are talking about “The Grinch” but as WCBI’s Allie Martin reports, the well known icon of the winter holidays is in need of a new costume, and fans have a chance to help out.
For years, “The Grinch” has appeared throughout Northeast Mississippi during the Christmas season. He is often seen with his parole officer, “Constable Whodunnit?”
“We would go to places, like hospitals and schools and things like that and spread Christmas cheer,” said Louis Armour, who plays “The Grinch.”
Under the makeup and costume, is 59 year old Louis Armour. His daughter, Kristyn, is the “Constable” of Whoville. The pair don’t get paid for their appearances, but all the activity is taking a toll on the Grinch’s outfit.
“I have hair problems, it’s just kind of falling out,” he said.
So, they’re trying to raise $2,000 through the website, “Go Fund Me” to upgrade the “Grinch’s” fake fur hair to a more realistic look.
The professional hair fabric is similar to that worn by Jim Carrey in the movie “The Grinch.”
Plus, the new pelt will have lots of benefits for Tupelo’s Grinch.
“I’ll not only be much more confident but I will be able to move better and such, and women and kids love me when I look good, I mean, I’m all about the hair,” Armour said.
“For his health, because The Grinch is getting older, spoiler, The Grinch is getting older. And I think it will be better on him because it vents better, it won’t fall out as much, it will look good,” Martz said.
And,a visit from “The Grinch” is an occasion.
“Santa Claus, he’s on every street corner, you can get him at any grocery store, that sort of thing, but The Grinch, that’s something special,” he said.
