TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo has a new police chief.
Bart Aguirre was sworn in as the new chief of police Monday morning during a ceremony at city hall.
Aguirre is a 29-year veteran of the Tupelo Police Department.
He started with the department as a radio dispatcher and worked his way up to the rank of captain.
The morning began with a prayer service at the Police Athletic League. Aguirre says he is ready to get to work.
“I’m so clouded right now with all the excitement and everything that is going on it is going to mean a lot to me,” he said. “I finally have reached that top level, that pinnacle in my law enforcement career.”
Aguirre says his priorities are to get the new headquarters for the police department built and to also focus on community policing.
