TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo public school students were able to show off their literacy and art skills during an annual contest.
The district-wide reading fair took place this morning at the Civic Auditorium. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade chose a book, read it and made a storyboard, highlighting key points of their selection.
Contestants had to answer questions from judges, who also inspected each storyboard.
Organizers say they hope students see that reading is fun, no matter your age.
“It teaches the children to analyze what they’re reading, think about how they might fit in a story,” Reading Fair Coordinator Lynn Brooks said. “It teaches them to recall facts and to have an adventure. In books, students can go anywhere.”
Winners advance to the regional reading fair next month in Oxford.
