Video: Tupelo Students Learning More About Northeast Mississippi’s First People

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) –Fourth graders in Tupelo schools will learn a lot about the Chickasaw Nation, thanks to a unique partnership.

The Chickasaw Inkana Foundation donated more than 500 books to Tupelo Public Schools.

The books, titled “C is for Chickasaw” will be used in fourth grade classes throughout Tupelo schools.

Teachers will be able to get continuing education units as part of the study of the Chickasaw culture and history.

“What we find with all of the arts integration that takes place across our district is this is one key component to solidifying kind of the whole circle of what arts integration and our cultural resources are around our area.”

A celebration of the Chickasaw Culture and history is set for October 28th at Fairpark.

It will involve fourth graders from local schools.
