TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -One Tupelo company gets part of their investment back as part of an initiative encouraging the use of energy efficient lighting.
Earlier this year, Philips Lighting replaced all of its lights in the factory with LED lighting. It is part of an energy efficiency initiative encouraging businesses and residences to go green.
The Tennessee Valley Authority presented a check to Philips for $154,000.00 to Philips. That money represents savings in energy costs since Philips converted to LED lighting.
Philips officials say the switch to LED lighting is a great investment in many ways.
“The money that we pay actually helps us keep our costs lower to consumers, energy efficiency is a low cost fuel resource, and this is just an example of the great partnership between city of Tupelo and Philips and their leadership to make this improvement.”
The LED lighting has reduced utility bills by $10,000.00 a month at the Tupelo Philips plant.
