TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Pastors throughout Tupelo are being asked to spread the word about the need for public transportation in the All American City. Tupelo City Council President Nettie Davis organized a meeting Thursday afternoon, to ask pastors for their help in getting some sort of public transportation up and running. Pastors were given information from the city’s transportation committee and the AARP and encouraged to help educate their church members about the need for public transportation among those who don’t have vehicles, the elderly and handicapped.
“Very much needed for people going to work, for the low income, for senior citizens, disabled and handicapped, it’s a need for all citizens in the city of Tupelo and we just feel that this would be a very beneficial project for city of Tupelo and the surrounding areas.”
A proposal for a public transportation system will be presented to city council members during a work study session next Tuesday at 4.
