TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A weekend of festivities honoring Dr Martin Luther King Jr wrapped up in Tupelo with a big celebration. The annual MLK Birthday Celebration service drew hundreds to the St Paul Christian Life Center.
There was music, prayers, and a keynote speech by Reverend Gloria McKinney. It was a chance to bring people together of all races and ages to remember Dr. King and the struggle for civil rights.
“Our young people needs to know their history, they need to know where we come from, and where we have pulled up from and they need to know where they need to start and build a better future for themselves.”
“I think it’s wonderful we are learning and celebrating what he did for us and the sacrifices he made for us and I think it’s important that people are aware of that and that they really appreciate that if it wasn’t for Dr. Martin Luther King and others like him we wouldn’t have the freedom and rights we have today.
The event is sponsored by the Modern Beauticians Club.
