Video: Tupelo High School Opens New Cross Country Track Facility

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Student athletes from Tupelo High School no longer have to go off campus for cross country track practice. A new cross country track will be ready in time for the start of school next week. The cross country track is located near the practice field and actually includes a 2.5 k course, and a 1 .25 mile course.

The track will allow students to run on a variety of surfaces, while keeping everyone safe and on campus.

“When you are having to mobilize, 100 plus children, every afternoon after school and get them from their different schools to a different location, all kinds of things can happen. But having this trail on campus, kids can leave their car in the parking lot and go straight from school to practice.”

“I’m really excited about because we have to carpool all the younger kids around so this will be nice to just be able to leave class and go to running.”

The budget for the cross country track was $30,000.00. The school will be able to host a variety of races and meets at the new course.
