TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The Tupelo City Council wrapped up a three-day retreat with the goal of providing better services to the people of Tupelo.
The new Health Sciences Center at the Tupelo campus of Itawamba Community college was the site of this weekend’s event. Mayor Jason Shelton and council members want to set an agenda for the council for the next four years.
“It’s goal setting so we’re discussing the needs for capital improvements, for a friendlier more customer service oriented city to just find ways to better serve the people of Tupelo Mississippi,” said Mayor Shelton.
Shelton says while the budget was not really a topic of this weekend’s retreat, he is confident that they get it passed this coming Tuesday.
There has been opposition by some members of the council over Shelton’s plan to bring in a full time in house counsel, rather than using one on a contractual basis. Shelton believes he can save the city 100-thousand dollars a year with his plan.
