TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The cold weather didn’t keep people from packing the sanctuary at All Saints Episcopal Church for the annual Community Thanksgiving Service in Tupelo.
Religious and community leaders joined others for the lunchtime service. The non denominational service included scripture reading, congregational singing, prayers and short speeches by Council President Nettie Davis and Mayor Jason Shelton.
“President George Washington initiated the concept of Thanksgiving and that still remains and problems aside, we need to give thanks for one another and what we can do with and for one another,” said David Sparks, senior verger.
The community wide service has been a tradition since the 1960s when a bi racial committee first organized the event. A different church hosts the service each year.
