VIDEO: A Trip To Florida Turns Into A Shooting Investigation
MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – A family vacation turns into a shooting investigation in Noxubee County.
Macon police Chief Lucious Mason says two cars from Chickasaw County were caravanning to the beach for a softball tournament early Sunday morning.
He says the cars were passing through Macon around 2:30 a.m. on Highway 45 in the southbound lane, when a black vehicle drove up beside them and started shooting at one of the cars, hitting it five times. The vehicle then sped off.
Police are checking surveillance footage from nearby businesses, trying to find possible witnesses, and pinpoint exactly where it took place.
“This is something that’s pretty odd, you know? Something like this happening in Macon, or even Columbus, you know, you just don’t hear about it. Now, Memphis or Jackson, or something like that, big cities like that, yeah, but this is real off for something like this to happen,” says Chief Mason.
Macon police are leading the investigation, and have called in the U.S. Marshals for assistance.
They are asking anyone with information to call the Macon Police or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers.
