WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) – A tourism tax could be on the way to the city of Winona if a Senate bill is passed.
The 2% tax would affect all prepared food in the city limits.
If legislators sign off on the bill, the money generated would help with recreation, tourism, parks, and economic development within the city.
Winona city leaders have done their research, saying one restaurant could generate as much as $85,000 dollars a year.
The director of Main Street says the increase wouldn’t have a dramatic effect on residents.
If the bill passes, Winona residents will then vote on the issue during an election.
60% must vote in favor of the tax.
