Video: Top Economic Developer Touts Tax Policy Positives

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) –State business and political leaders are always trying to balance economic development and the state’s budget.

And some critics say that tax policy passed by the legislature to lure major industries is hurting the State’s bottom line by cutting off possible revenue..

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Columbus Rotary Club the director of the Mississippi Development Authority, Glenn McCullough, addressed that issue.

He pointed to moves like eliminating the state’s franchise tax as making the state more attractive to outside investment.

“We have to have favorable tax policy, and we have to have a low tax environment, so that businesses can be profitable and be productive. We’ve got a good business environment in Mississippi, but we can always work it better, and we’re fortunate to be seeing expansions.”

McCullough praised the Golden Triangle for its partnership of education and industry to develop a strong workforce.
