STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-While some students come out of college in search for jobs; others are creating ones of their own.
The Old House located in Starkville is a store that sells a variety of merchandise from jewelry to t-shirts. You can even find merchandise designed by local students.
Mark Slawson along with two other group members first started Wildlife Printing through a mutual friend and family member.
“Jonathan Prudhomme, he kind of had the idea of us putting our designs on t-shirts and we thought it would sound like a good idea so we went with it,” says Mark Slawson.
Three Mississippi State University graphic design students decided to take what they learned in the classroom and turn it into merchandise.
“It’s at least a couple of orders every week we handle to fill and then we do art shows with 929 coffee and pop up shops on Main Street so we get a good bit of business from people here in Starkville,” says Paul Prudhomme.
While it may seem these three are professionals at what they do…Paul Prudhomme remembers a time when they needed a little help.
“There is a teacher on campus…Jude Langley….he kind of gave us a free lesson. Before that we were printing things backwards and it was horrible,” says Prudhomme.
After many trials and error Mark says they hope their business will continue to grow.
“We’re going to push it as far as it will go and hopefully that will lead into a future career,” says Slawson.
So the next time you want handmade products, just look for Wild Life Printing.
A percentage of the funds that come from their merchandise sold at The Old House store will go to fund a missionary.
