Video: Technology Student Association Statewide Meeting Kicks Off
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Hundreds of middle school and high school students are at Tupleo’s Bancorpsouth Arena, for three days of high energy, intense competitions testing a wide range of skills.
It is the statewide conference for the Mississippi “Technology Student Association.”
Students take part in a number of competitive events, such as robotics, prepared speeches, structural design and engineering, forensic technology and other categories.
The theme for the conference is “Defining Your Future.”
“A lot of these competitions are science, technology, engineering or math based. That helps them , choose whether to go into something or sometimes whether not to go into an area,” said Jim Cobbs, an advisor to Mississippi TSA.
“I love coming to these competitions, you get to meet a whole bunch of new people from all different kinds of places, especially nationals and a lot of people from different backgrounds and you get to see their competitions things you wouldn’t see if you weren’t in here,” said Hannah Selvy, an eighth grader at South Panola Middle School.
Statewide officers will also be elected during the conference. Winners at the Tupelo event advance to Nationals this summer in Orlando. WCBI will have more on the contests Tuesday.
