TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – For weeks they have been building sets and rehearsing, and now it’s opening night.  For six years now, Steve Miller has helped turn the Lyric into a Haunted Theatre. This year he says visitors can expect the unexpected as they walk through 11 thousand square feet of frightening scenes.

“We focus on our own fears so if you see an 18 wheeler running around in the theater, if you can imagine that, we have one,” Miller said.

It takes dozens of people to stage this attraction. There are actors in each scene, and for many, this is their first experience at frightening people.

“We just throw them right in there and they have to scare, you have to understand, about every 5 minutes they are doing the same performance over and over,” he said.

There aren’t any zombies in this haunted theatre, but there are clowns, and the Tupelo tornado makes a return, plus there’s a swamp creature. It takes about 20 minutes to tour the haunted theatre.

“Every single bit of them was scary , especially the part where there is an alleyway and somebody comes up behind you and oh, gosh, that’s really creepy,” said Ashley Barron, who toured the attraction.

Do you get your money’s worth?

“Yeah, I was real impressed by the decorations and stuff,” said Grey Robertson, of Alabama.

“This is one of the best haunted houses, or haunted things in Mississippi,” said Warner King, who plays a part in the production.

You can see for yourself, if you dare, on selected dates through Halloween night.
