OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s a way for emergency responders to run through disaster scenarios without tying up the manpower needed for a full-fledged drill. Representatives of Okolona and Chickasaw County’s law enforcement agencies and fire departments, along with elected officials held a tabletop disaster exercise to develop their emergency response plans.
Tabletop drills such as this allow first responders to fine tune their plans, and they provide a unique opportunity for members to build relationships – before- a disaster occurs.
“What we want to do more than anything is to validate their emergency plans. Hopefully, they have learned something in here that will validate their plan, or, if necessary, allow them to update their plan.
“A lot of the time we will be called in as mutual aid. It’s nice to go ahead and meet the people before the disaster actually happens. And you can get a clear expectation of what they would want you to bring in case they have a disaster in this city”
Members of departments from neighboring cities and counties also participated in the exercise.
