TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Monday morning was a little relaxed, but members of the THS Synergy
Showchoir were doing what they do best.
For the third consecutive year, “Synergy” advanced to the FAME National
Showchoir Competition, where they won big.
“We placed third for the first time, so we got third in the nation,” said Danielle Frerer, who is director of “Synergy.” She led 33 young ladies as they
rehearsed and perfected their “competition show.”
“It’s incredible, to go through the year, you watch , all the kids come and
they start at one level and end at such a high level, it’s amazing to see
how kids really rise to the occasion, you push them , they have worked so
hard,” Frerer said.
Banners congratulating Synergy have been put up outside of the Fine Arts building.
Students say it’s important to know they have support of the school and the
entire community.
“It’s really cool to watch family, friends and people from all over the
community come support us and because we have to do a lot of fundraising,
because it’s very expensive to travel all the way to Chicago three years in
a row,” said THS Senior Taylor Fikes.
Senior Katherine Holliman was awarded best stage presence out of the
performers. She says “Synergy” has been the highlight of her time at THS
and she has learned a lot of valuable life lessons.
“Miss Frerer is an amazing instructor, she is really dedicated to this group
and she spends hours working with us, even working out of school on her own
working to make this group the best we can be. Not only does she teach us
about music and notes, dancing , but she teaches us about life, how to be
kind and how to deal with others with grace,” Holliman said.
Auditions will be held soon for next year’s Synergy Showchoir, and they may
need a bigger trophy case. The Synergy Showchoir also won “best crew” at nationals. They also had a 9
piece band backing them up.
