Video: Supes Open Door to Guns in County Buildings

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Lowndes County Supervisors open the door to handguns.

The Board voted Tuesday to remove signs banning firearms from the Courthouse and other county buildings.

The move comes after the County received a letter from the Attorney General, saying, in effect, that the signs were illegal.

Citizens who openly carry or have enhanced carry permits can have weapons in the courthouse, but when court is in session, situations will be handled on a case by case basis.

“When court is in session, the Sheriff made it known that if someone came in that could properly carry a firearm in the building, that they just insure that he stayed in an area where court was not in session, not near the courtrooms.”

Tuesday’s vote also affects other public buildings, including the library and juvenile detention facility.
