TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – It is summer and that means an increase in humidity, temperatures and kidney stones.
Area doctors say they see a rise in patients suffering with kidney stones during the summer months.
Doctors say one of the most common causes of kidney stones is dehydration. In fact, Dr. Steve Farmer, of Urology Associates, says 80 percent of kidney stones can be decreased or prevented by drinking enough water.
“It’s hard to make your entire diet only water, so we recommend that at least half of everything you drink be consisting of water alone and drink enough fluids that you can urinate almost two liters a day, that’s quite a bit but it’s particularly important if you are a kidney stone former,” Dr. Farmer said.
Doctor Farmer points out there are other causes of kidney stones, such as infections, diet and genetic factors.
