Starkville, MS (WCBI)-A group of Starkville Second-Graders are going to the farm to learn a few life lessons. This Fall, Sudduth Elementary students have been learning respect, responsibility, and trust by helping groom and take care of a horse. Counselor Dawn Swartz and trainer Mary Shannon are guiding the girls.
“A lot of them were a little scared and timid but as the time went on, they got really courageous and they are working really well with each other in doing interpersonal skills as well.
“the horse is actually the teacher. He can teach this so much faster than we can because he is a prey animal and you have to earn his trust and respect to interact with him.”
This is the first year that Sudduth has used the program.
