TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A Tupelo School that has seen a 25 percent increase in enrollment the past several years needs to raise $750,000.00 for much needed expansion. But Tupelo Christian Preparatory School doesn’t have access to taxpayer dollars so Monday night it held it’s 3rd Annual Speaker’s banquet at the school’s gym. The school hopes to reach the $550,000.00 it needs to begin Phase 1 of the $750,000.00 campaign which is a new cafeteria. They also plan a two-million dollar middle school addition, and field house in Phase 2.
TCPS Development Director Will Lowery says all the money must come from private sources. “We’re not government supported and it is something that we have to spearhead ourselves,” he says. “But it’s kind of a benefit for us because we’re used to getting out there and working really hard and dreaming big and so we’re growing fast so it’s a good opportunity for us, ” Lowery notes.
The guest speaker was businessman author and documentary producer Bill Courtney who turned a high school football program around in an economically depressed area of Memphis. He signed copies of his book “Against the Grain.” He was the subject of a 2011 documentary “Undefeated.”
TCPS currently has 535 Students enrolled in K-12 and Lowery says they will be able to have an enrollment of 12-hundred once both expansion projects are completed.
